Do I need my own domain to use systeme.io?

The address you already have

Every account carries a systeme.io subdomain. It sits under your profile picture, at Settings, then Custom domains, where the three dots offer Edit subdomain name.

The shape is a name of your choosing in front of systeme.io. The help centre's own example for a sub-account is project-1.systeme.io.

Adding your own costs nothing

The free plan includes 1 custom domain, alongside 2,000 contacts, 3 sales funnels, 1 blog, 1 course and 1 affiliate program.

You still have to buy the domain from a registrar. systeme.io will not buy one on your behalf.

Where a custom domain stops being optional

• The Facebook Pixel. systeme.io's setup guide lists a custom domain in the things you need before you start.
• The Facebook Conversions API. It is configured per domain, at Settings, Custom Domains, the three dots beside the domain, then Settings.
• Building a site out of a blog or a funnel. Both of those guides open by requiring a custom domain already connected.

What connecting one takes away

The domain then points at systeme.io and nothing else. Any site already living at that address, a WordPress or Wix site for instance, stops being reachable there.

A domain name can only be used for one website, so this is not a thing you half do.

If the DNS part is what is stopping you

systeme.io support will connect and authenticate a domain you have already bought, at no charge, on any plan including the free one.

They ask for the email address on your systeme.io account and the login for your domain registrar, and they recommend changing that registrar password once they tell you the work is done. If two-factor authentication is on, you say so when you request it and they arrange the code with you by email.

Setup is usually finished within a few hours. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to spread. An SSL certificate is issued for you automatically once the domain is connected, so the padlock appears without you doing anything.
