Why does my domain show the wrong page when someone types it without a path?

An empty path is the whole mechanism

systeme.io does not have a single "set as homepage" button. Instead, whichever page, blog, website or creator store should answer at the root gets its URL path field cleared and saved. Whatever still has an empty path is what a visitor lands on.

The most likely reason it is the wrong one

Four different kinds of content can each hold that empty path: a funnel page, a blog, a website and a creator store, and each one is cleared from its own separate settings screen. If the homepage moved at some point, from a blog to a funnel page, say, and only the new page had its path cleared, the old blog may still be sitting on an empty path of its own.

systeme.io's guide does not say what happens when two items both claim an empty path, or which one wins. That case is not covered anywhere in its documentation.

Root and subdomain are two entries, not two settings on one

A root domain such as www.domain.com and a subdomain such as blog.domain.com are added as two separate entries on the same screen, profile picture, then Settings, then Custom Domain, each getting its own pair of CNAME records. Clearing the path on a page attached to the subdomain does nothing for the root domain, and the other way round.

Typing the bare domain and getting an old or unrelated page can mean the homepage was set on the wrong one of the two, while the domain you actually typed still shows whatever had the empty path before.

Rule out DNS before assuming it is a systeme.io setting

A newly connected domain can take 24 to 48 hours for its DNS records to propagate, and systeme.io states a correctly configured domain is normally approved within 24 hours. Check both CNAME records at dnschecker.org, entering the full record name systeme.io shows, before changing anything else.

systeme.io's article on domains that fail approval also names a common setup mistake: adding the domain without the www prefix. That is a different problem from the wrong page showing, but worth ruling out at the same time on a domain connected recently.

What is not documented

Nothing in systeme.io's help articles says which item wins when two of them have an empty path, whether the switch is instant or needs a cache to clear, or whether a domain freed from one website by removing it there keeps showing that old site for a while afterward. Anyone chasing this fault is, at some point, testing something systeme.io has not written down.
